And I thought Video Killed the Radio Star

Category Misc. Ramblings

More fun in the music biz this week. First, the RIAA unleashes another 500+ lawsuits, then gets sued under federal racketeering statutes. If we take what the record industry says as gospel, then the proliferation of free P2P systems is the only reason why sales are down and the music business is hurting so much. Don Henley, late of the Eagles, took the industry to task this week in a Washington Post op-ed piece that lays the blame on more than just those of us who use Kazaa and e-Donkey. Henley feels that the industry should bear the brunt of the blame, even for P2P-based piracy.

Rock on!

I know I bought a TiVo for a reason

QuickImage Category Misc. Ramblings

Now I've had my TiVo for many years. Count me among the converted. It's one of the original Sony units capable of recording for 30 hrs. max. It's been upgraded multiple times--from 30 hrs. to 110 hrs. to 200 hrs. to 240 hrs. It been networked and I now I can program it remotely and even have it splash Caller ID info on the TV. People say it all the time but it's changed my couch potato life. You all just can't know the happiness I feel when TiVo has recorded another episode of Lizzie McGuire.

I've always known that in order to keep the business afloat that TiVo collects data on viewer habits and it looks like in the bruhaha that is now known as "Boobgate" that there are a lot of happy TiVo owners.

Happy Holidays

QuickImage Category Misc. Ramblings
As I sit around the house, watching the SCCA Valvolene Runoffs 24-hr marathon on Speed Channel I wanted to wish everyone a happy Hanukkah, a merry Christmas, and a prosperous New Year. To keep up with tradition I'll no doubt go out for Chinese food and a movie today as well.

Tryptophan is your friend

QuickImage Category Misc. Ramblings

Happy Thanksgiving everybody. I'm back from visiting the parents down south and greatly enjoyed my time away from DC. I had the traditional Ginsberg holiday dinner--meaning anything but home cooked. Mom, Dad and I headed out to the same Charlotte hotel we eat at every year. Nothing new but a good meal nonetheless. Rest assured, if Mom could find a way to cook a turkey in the microwave we'd have eaten at their place.

Other than sit around and watch the Valvolene Runoff's I didn't do much..just dragged Mom to the new Billy Bob Thornton movie, Bad Santa, one of the funniest movies I have ever seen. Then again, I'm a fan of the dry, wry humor of Thornton's Willie Stokes.Just the thing to get you in the Christmas spririt.

Bah humbug!

Giddeeyup!

QuickImage Category Misc. Ramblings

Rather than yet another story about my racing exploits (all three of you who read this page must be bored to death already), today's is a story about walking bow-legged.

You see, yesterday, Heidi, Raelyn, Dan and I headed out the the JBit Ranch in Berryville, VA for a trail ride. Now in my storied past I had done my share of English riding, including a great deal of dressage and jumping, but I'd never fit my huge rear in a Western saddle. I believe it was Heidi's and Dan's first time on horseback, but other than a little trotting tribulations by some in our party it turned out to be a relaxing, enjoyable afternoon.

Afterwards, we headed out to Harpers Ferry so the girls could go antiquing. And boy do I love to shop...Not!

So what did  I learn from our experiences? Hmm...
  • Horseback riders talking on cell phones are just as dangerous as those driving cars.
  • 27 yr old mares who given birth to 14 or 15 foals can be lively old gals.
  • Parking in Harpers Ferry is worse than Disney World. For a town that doesn't seem to have more that 300 tourists on a beautiful Saturday, it's funny that you have to park five miles away and take a shuttle bus.
  • For $20/year even you can go see a historc Civil War community as many times as you like.

Ah, to relax...

Category Misc. Ramblings
Just got back from a weekend in the lovely Shenendoah mountains with friends. The quaint little cabin we stayed at had ample room for the eight of us, was as secluded as I had hoped and had a big enough fridge to pack all of Jagermeister I could drink.

Besides a wonderful day exploring Luray Caverns and the adjacent Car and Carriage Museum, we carved pumpkins, ate pumpkin seeds, watched hilarious, yet cheezy movies (Caddyshack, Friday, and Fast Times), and drank till we all dropped. It's all what I needed to forget what has admittedly been a tough few months for me over at the IFC.
Happy b-day, Raelyn!

Yo, Gregg. Where ya been?

Category Misc. Ramblings

No, I haven't disappeared off the face of the earth. Truth be told, I'm having a little problem with my blogging software, Blogsphere, and how it interracts with newly released Lotus Domino 6.5

A new version of the software is to be released shortly. Once it is (and assuming the problems are resolved) I'll update everyone on my racing exploits and everything else in my world.

Hey...it's my first entry here.

Category Misc. Ramblings
Hey everyone! Since I haven't made any changes to my website in over a year. I've decided that it's time to start anew. I've got a lot of experiences built up. Whether it be crashing street and race cars at the track, my work at the World Bank, etc, I've got a lot to share. Tons of stories, tons of photos. It's my hope to keep everything updated on a regular basis. So stay tuned for all that I have in store.
